AGRICULTURAL
COST-SHARING:
How OWASA helps farmers conserve land
and protect water quality
Since 1984, OWASA
has contributed more than $30,000 to help Orange County farmers make
improvements to protect the land and water quality in the University Lake
and Cane Creek watersheds
OWASA provided these funds
to farmers as reimbursements for one-eighth or 12.5% of eligible improvement
costs.
The agricultural improvements
supported by OWASA include
- plantings in and terracing
of areas vulnerable to erosion,
- fencing to separate livestock
from creeks and streams,
- equipment for animal waste
management,
- erosion controls in stream
and gully areas and
- feedlot and other drainage
improvements.
OWASA's agricultural cost-sharing
supplements the State's 75% reimbursement program.
OWASA works in coordination
with the Orange County Soil and Water Conservation District.
OWASA will reimburse up
to $5,000 of costs for eligible improvements.
In addition, OWASA has expanded
its agricultural cost-sharing so that improvements are eligible for OWASA
funding assistance even if they are not required by the State or eligible
for state cost-share funds.
