OWASA's biosolids:

Enriching the land and helping farmers

In the process of cleansing wastewater for return to the natural environment, OWASA removes solid particles from the wastewater.

This "sludge" from wastewater is substantially treated and turned into usable Biosolids to support crops for non-human consumption.

The biosolids are applied to farmland in our Agricultural Nutrients or Biosolids Recycling Program.

Each year, we transport and spread more than 1,500 tons of biosolids on farm land.

Biosolids are applied to farm land with OWASA's "terragator."

OWASA provides biosolids for farmland at no charge.

Biosolids are provided when requested by farmers (subject to weather, field conditions and availability).

BIOSOLIDS QUALITY:

• Nitrogen and phosphorus in our biosolids are in mineral form, resulting in slow release.
  
  
• Fertilizer rating: 4.5 - 4.5 - 0.5 for nitrogen, phosphorus and potash.
  
  
• Our biosolids also contain trace amounts of zinc and copper.
