Customers may notice water discoloration in area of East Franklin, East Rosemary, South Columbia, Henderson and Raleigh Streets

Residents and businesses in the area including East Franklin, East Rosemary, South Columbia, Henderson and Raleigh Streets may notice discolored water today and Tuesday due to maintenance work by OWASA.
To clear up the discoloration, customers are asked to run cold water for 5 to 10 minutes. If the water does not clear up, please contact OWASA at 919-968-4421 (24 hour number).
Customers are asked to make sure that the water is clear before doing laundry, etc.
Discoloration may also appear in ice in ice makers. Discolored water or ice can be used to water plants.
The maintenance by OWASA involves releasing water from fire hydrants to remove sediment such as small iron particles which can accumulate in water pipes.
The purpose of the water release from hydrants is to help keep water clear in normal conditions. Similar maintenance is done in all of the water system over time.
