Orange Water and Sewer Authority (OWASA), Carrboro-Chapel Hill’s not-for-profit public service agency delivering high-quality water, wastewater, and reclaimed water services seeks a highly responsible, detail-oriented individual to join our team as a Maintenance Mechanic/Senior Maintenance Mechanic at the Wastewater Treatment Facility.
Examples of Duties
The purpose of this position is to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operations within the facilities of OWASA and to assist in maintaining all company assets. This is accomplished by performing preventative and corrective maintenance in administrative buildings, water and wastewater treatment plants, lift and pump stations, raw water supply reservoirs. Duties include inspecting and repairing equipment, diesel pumps and power generators, performing pump station and tank inspections, maintaining spare parts inventory, operating various trucks and other equipment. Regularly references equipment manuals and troubleshoots electrical control panels and Programmable Logic Controls (PLC). Position performs rotating on-call duties after hours. Work is accomplished by receiving and completing work orders through a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
Valid North Carolina Class C Driver’s License is required. Must meet and maintain requirements of a safety sensitive position (ability to wear a full-face respirator, complete HAZWOPER training, etc.). Physical requirements include the ability to frequently exert 10-25 pounds and occasionally 50-100 pounds. Candidates must have the ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
Title and salary range are dependent on education and experience.
Maintenance Mechanic: Requires a High School diploma with at least one year of experience. Knowledge of electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic equipment is required. Previous experience using a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) is preferred. Salary range: $40,801 – $62,833.
Senior Maintenance Mechanic: Requires six-months to one year of advanced study or training at a community college or technical school with three to five years of relevant experience. Advanced knowledge of electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic equipment and experience using a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) are required. Salary range: $48,138 – $74,131.
