Starting in August, a contractor working for OWASA will begin work to replace the water pipe on Fordham Service Rd as shown on the map below. Construction may take up to seven months to complete, subject to delays due to weather and/or unforeseen conditions.
The work will involve digging a trench, installing a new water pipe in Fordham Service Road and within an existing casing beneath Fordham Boulevard, installing new OWASA service pipes to carry water from the new main to the meters, connecting the new main to other mains in the water system, and restoring the pavement wherever new pipes are installed.
How the work may affect customers in the area
- The work will involve noise, dust, and mud. Normal work hours are Monday through Friday, 7AM to 6PM.
- Traffic may be slowed in the area to allow for lane closures and detours as needed to ensure the safety of the contractor and the general public.
- Businesses along Fordham Service Road within the work area may experience a temporary interruption of water service when the new water main is connected to the system. We will provide advance notice to any affected customers.
- The pavement over the work area may be initially rough and bumpy until final asphalt restoration has occurred.
