OWASA Board of Directors Meeting Summary for April 8

OWASA’s Board of Directors met virtually on Thursday, April 8, 2021, and considered an agenda that included draft Fiscal Year 2022 budget and rate adjustment projections.

The Board of Directors is currently meeting virtually due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Employee Health and Dental Insurance

The Board received information on Employee Health and Dental Insurance renewals. The current Employee Health and Dental contracts expire on June 30, 2021. The Board is expected to receive more information before a vote is expected in May 2021.

Fiscal Year 2022 Draft Budget and Rate Adjustment Projections

The Board received draft Fiscal Year 2022 budget and rate adjustment projections from OWASA staff. To fund the draft budget, a five percent rate increase is being proposed. The Board will hold a public hearing on the proposed budget and rate adjustments on May
27, 2021.

Board Member Recruitment

The Board received information on outreach strategies for Board Members to assist in recruiting applicants for the next round of Board appointments. There are four OWASA Board appointments scheduled by June 30, 2021 by the local appointing jurisdictions: Carrboro, Chapel Hill, and Orange County.

Board Self-Assessment

The Board agreed to postpone a Board of Directors self-assessment this fiscal year.

The Board will hold its next meeting remotely on Thursday, April 22, 2021, via Microsoft Teams at 6 p.m.; a link will be provided here.
