OWASA Board of Directors Meeting Summary for June 9

OWASA’s Board of Directors met virtually on Thursday, June 9, 2022, and considered an agenda that included the proposed Fiscal Year 2023 Budget and Rate Adjustment.

The Board of Directors is currently meeting virtually due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Budget

The Board approved the Fiscal Year 2023 Budget and Schedule of Rates, Fees, and Charges effective October 1, 2022. The Board also approved the five-year Capital Improvements Program.

Long-Range Water Supply Plan

The Board authorized staff to include the alternative to access OWASA’s Jordan Lake allocation by investing in proposed intake and transmission infrastructure on the western side of Jordan Lake in our Long-Range Water Supply Plan. The Board also received a summary of the most recent round of community engagement and feedback on OWASA’s Long-Range Water Supply Plan.

Recognition of Service

The Board approved a resolution honoring the service of Yinka Ayankoya to the Carrboro – Chapel Hill – Orange County community as a member of the OWASA Board of Directors. Ayankoya served two terms on the OWASA Board of Directors as an appointee of the Town of Carrboro.

Election of Officers

The Board elected Board Officers effective July 1, 2022: Bruce Boehm as Chair, Todd BenDor as Vice Chair, and Ray DuBose as Secretary.
