OWASA Board of Directors Meeting Summary for May 13

OWASA’s Board of Directors met virtually on Thursday, May 13, 2021, and considered an agenda that included draft guiding principles for the community’s Long-Range Water Supply Plan.

The Board of Directors is currently meeting virtually due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Sherman Betts Retirement

The Board approved a resolution honoring the service of Sherman Betts to OWASA and the Carrboro-Chapel Hill-Orange County community. Betts is retiring in May after 36 years of service in OWASA’s Distribution and Collection System Department.

Long-Range Water Supply Plan

The Board provided feedback and guidance on draft guiding principles that will be used to evaluate water supply alternatives. The Board will continue this discussion at its meeting on June 10, 2021. OWASA is updating the community’s Long-Range Water Supply Plan to ensure that we have an adequate water supply for our community through 2070.

Employee Insurance Contracts

The Board authorized the Executive Director to execute contracts for insurance plans including: Employee Health and Dental, Employee Life, Dependent Life, Accidental Death and Dismemberment, and Long-Term Disability to replace those scheduled to expire on June 30, 2021.

Strategic Plan

The Board approved the process for developing OWASA’s new strategic plan.

Employee Merit Increases

The Board provided information on Employee Cost of Labor/Merit Pay Increases for Fiscal Year 2022. The Board will approve the overall FY 2022 budget and rate adjustment on June 10, 2021.

Future Board Meetings

The Board agreed to cancel the Boards’ June 24, July 22 and August 12, 2021 meetings.

The Board will hold its next meeting remotely on Thursday, May 27, 2021, via Microsoft Teams at 6 p.m.; a link will be provided here.
