OWASA Celebrating Annual Care to Share Day Raising Funds for Bill-Assistance Program

OWASA is excited to celebrate the fourth-annual Care to Share Day on Thursday, November 17, 2022, to raise awareness of and funds for the Care to Share bill-assistance program available for OWASA customers. The program is administered in partnership with the Inter-Faith Council for Social Service (IFC).

The Care to Share program has a direct impact on local residents who have OWASA bills that are past due. Over the last year, more than 100 families have received funding from this program to help pay down their bill.

Donations can be made to the program by OWASA customers as part of their monthly bill or by a direct donation to the IFC designated for the Care to Share program. All of the funds donated to the program will directly help local residents in need.

OWASA had a moratorium in place on service disconnections due to non-payment from March 2020 through June 2022 in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Following the expiration of the local State of Emergency related to the pandemic, OWASA resumed Standard Collection Practices, including the possibility of service disconnections. OWASA’s Customer Service team has been working to connect any customers in need with outside utility assistance funding as it has been available throughout the pandemic. As these programs expire, the Care to Share program will take on added importance for our local community.

OWASA would like to thank the Town of Carrboro and the Town of Chapel Hill for recently allocating some funding from the American Rescue Plan Act to cover the accrued debt of municipal residents on OWASA bills while the Orange County COVID-19 State of Emergency was in place.

If you are able, please consider donating to the Care to Share program today by signing up as a recurring donor on your monthly OWASA bill or donating directly to the IFC and designating it for the OWASA Care to Share program.

If you or someone you know is in need of assistance on their OWASA bill, please contact our Customer Service team at (919) 537-4343.
