OWASA plans to close some vehicle lanes on Manning Drive and Ridge Road Wednesday-Friday, June 4-6, 2014

OWASA plans to close the eastbound turn lane and two westbound lanes of Manning Drive, and two southbound lanes on Ridge Road at the Ridge Road-Manning Drive intersection from Wednesday through Friday from about 9 AM to 4 PM.

OWASA will maintain two-way traffic, and drivers will be shifted to alternative lanes so they can still turn right or left or go through as usual. Drivers are encouraged to use alternate routes.

The work starting Wednesday is the first step in a project to renew the water line on Ridge Road from Manning Drive to Boshamer Stadium. The project, which is needed to maintain reliable water service including water for fire protection, will be complete by mid-August..

The map below shows the locations where OWASA plans to close the traffic lanes later this week. OWASA has worked with the University, Town of Chapel Hill, and NC Department of Transportation to plan the lane closings.

The lane closings may be rescheduled due to weather or other conditions. If rescheduling is necessary, it will be publicized.

OWASA plans to interrupt water service to some buildings in the area on Thursday, June 5th between about 9 AM and 4 PM, including Rams Head Parking Deck / Dining Hall, Student & Academic Services Buildings (North and South), and the Koury, Ehringhaus, and Horton Residence Halls. OWASA has coordinated the service interruption with building managers, and will notify the occupants of the affected buildings 48 hours before the service interruption.

Customers in the area may notice discoloration or air bubbles in OWASA drinking water Thursday and possibly Friday. Customers who notice discoloration or air bubbles in water are asked to run cold water for 5 to 10 minutes to clear up the discoloration/air bubbles. If the water does not clear up, please contact OWASA at 919-968-4421 (24-hour number).
