OWASA Responds to Wastewater Overflow Caused by Heavy Rains

Dear customers,

OWASA crews responded to an overflow of untreated wastewater at 10:30 p.m. Tuesday, January 9, off of Creekview Circle in Carrboro, part of the Spring Valley neighborhood.

OWASA was alerted to the overflow by a passerby who noticed the overflow coming from a manhole cover. The overflow was caused by heavy rains Tuesday afternoon and evening entering the sewer system.

The total overflow volume was approximately 1,500 gallons. Once the rain subsided, the overflow stopped within 30 minutes of the report as water receded. No further action was required by OWASA crews. The appropriate state officials have been notified.
