Updates on the OWASA's replacement of the water line on Pritchard Avenue from West Rosemary Street to Noble Street

Updated September 7, 2018

West Rosemary Road Closed This Weekend (Sept. 8-9) for OWASA Water Main Replacement Project

At OWASA, maintaining the community's extensive network of water and wastewater pipes (more than 750 miles) is a priority to ensure reliable access to water at all times - for residents, businesses and community services.

As part of a critical water main replacement project, the portion of West Rosemary Street between South Columbia Street and Church Street will be closed on Saturday September 8 from 8AM to 4PM and on Sunday September 9 from 8AM and 8PM (weather permitting). Additionally, on Saturday September 8, traffic will be reduced to one lane after 4PM. (Please note that this is a slight difference in the schedule announced earlier this week.) No water outages or service interruptions are expected as part of the work to be completed this weekend.

Map of area where road will be closed and detour routes

Traffic will be rerouted per the map above. Neighborhood detour routes will also be posted along Pritchard Avenue, Short Street, and Carr Street. Businesses, residents, and visitors will likely experience heavier traffic on Franklin Street. There will be noise, dust, and mud as OWASA’s contractor works to remove underground rock and install new water pipes in this area.

If the contractor encounters complications, the road closure may be extended beyond the weekend. The community will be notified in advance, if this occurs.

The work being conducted this weekend is part of a larger capital investment in the community’s drinking water infrastructure. Following this weekend, work will continue on Pritchard Avenue and Noble Street during the weekdays from 7AM to 5PM. The entire project is expected to be complete in early 2019.
